Chocolate and Strawberry Jam Cakes

German style cake called ERDBEER SCHNITTEN. Schnitten means sliced baked goods in German. Spread strawberry jam on top before baking. You can substitute strawberry jam with raspberry or blueberry jam.

Chop chocolate. Melt the chocolate over low heat or by double boiling.

Cream together butter and sugar. (Photo #1)

Stir in beaten eggs, a little at a time.

Stir in the melted chocolate and blend.

Add sifted flour and blend well to make a smooth batter. (Photo #2)

Fill a baking tray with the batter to a depth of 1cm. Spread strawberry jam on the surface about 3mm thick. (Photo #3)

Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (365 °F) until brown.

Cut into 4cm squares. (Photo #4)
