Good Luck Ring Cookies
World Traditional Recipe フランス

French style cookies. This is similar to a basic tart dough recipe, but egg white is used instead of egg yolk. Shape the cookies into an unconnected ring, rather than a complete ring. Here is how you try your luck: connect a ring to another as in the top photo, and pull the cookies in opposite directions until one of them breaks. If you eat the unbroken cookie, you will have a lucky day.

In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar. (Photo #1)

Mix in egg white and flour, in that order, and knead the dough. (Photo #2)

Pull the dough together into a ball. Take off a little dough and roll it into a 10cm bar. (Photo #3)

Shape each bar into an unconnected ring, or a C-shape, with both ends about 2cm apart. (Photo #4)

Place the rings on a foil-lined toaster oven baking tray. Bake in a preheated toaster oven at 160 °C (320 °F) for about 15 minutes until golden. (Photo #5)
