In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar.
 
  
Add beaten eggs and blend well. (Photo #1)
 
  
Mix in sifted dry ingredients and rum, in that order. Blend well. 
 
  
Transfer the batter to a square pan to a depth of 2cm.
 
  
Slice apples into 1cm wedges. (Photo #2)   
 
  
Place the apples on top of the batter and sprinkle with sugar*. (Photo #3) 
(*This is not included in the ingredients list. Have extra amount ready.) 
 
  
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (356 °F) for about 20 minutes until golden. (Photo #4)
