French style striped cookies. Hold one end of a cookie and have someone else hold the other end. You can try your luck by breaking the cookie. If it breaks exactly in half, it’s your lucky day. If not, just try again. Still no luck? Well, try again tomorrow.

Cream together butter and sugar. Blend well. (Photo #1)

Beat in egg yolk. (Photo #2)

Add flour and mix. Divide the dough into halves and place in separate bowls.

Knead one half of the dough and press it together. To the other half, add cocoa powder, knead and press it together.

Place both in the refrigerator for about half an hour. (Photo #3)

Place each dough in the center of plastic wrap. Fold the wrap covering each dough to make a 15cm X 15cm square. Roll out each in the plastic wrap and fill the square. In this way, you’ll have two sheets of dough the same size, about 5mm thick. (Photo #4)

Place the chocolate dough on top of the plain dough. Press over lightly to adhere one layer to the other.

Cut the dough in half, then place one half on top of the other, making stripes as in the photo. (Photo #5)

Repeat Step #8, making eight layers. (Photo #6)

Cut the dough in half. Now cut each strip into 5mm slices across, so each slice is striped. (Photo #7)

Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (356 °F) for 8 to 10 minutes.
